I think my favorite thing to get in the mail is books. Yesterday I got two. It was a good day.
One book was my 2nd proof copy of Guardian Cats. It still needs some minor tweaks, but each revision is an improvement.
The other was this month’s Book Giveaway, No Passengers Beyond This Point. The author, Gennifer Choldenko, is a New York Times bestselling and Newbery Honor Award-winning author of eight children’s books, including Notes from a Liar and Her Dog, If a Tree Falls at Lunch Period and Al Capone Does My Shirts (Apparently he does shoes too!).
I’d always wanted to read Al Capone and I’m about halfway through now. I love the MC’s voice in the story, a kid named Moose, whose family moves to Alcatraz Island where his father works as a guard and electrician. Moose has a mentally disabled sister who figures prominently in Moose’s life as he ends up having to baby sit her much of the time. Moose’s sense of humor is droll, especially when dealing with Pippy, the spoiled brat of a daughter of his dad’s boss.
After reading Al Capone, I can’t wait to crack open No Passengers. For a peek inside, here’s the blurb from the jacket flap:
Questions can be tricky things. Everyone has their own way of dealing with them. India Tompkins can charm her way out of answering most of them. Finn Tompkins is too quiet to be asked in the first place. And Mouse Tompkins? She’s a genius–she’s used to having all the answers.
I can’t embed the book trailer, but here’s the link to No Passengers beyond This Point on Amazon’s book page with trailer included.
I had to pay for my copy, but you can get one for FREE. Sign up to receive emails and be eligible to win. See My Monthly Book Giveaways. No gimmicks.
