City Teaching Alliance offers City Year alums a supported path into a long-term teaching career.

City Teaching Alliance are among the most prepared and results-oriented new teachers in the nation because of the supports and benefits available throughout the program:

• Fellowship stipend of up to $40,000, plus benefits, during the first year
• Full-time teaching position with a salary of $50,000–$60,000, plus benefits, beginning in year two
• Graduate coursework toward a master’s degree from a leading regional university partner
• Dual certification in Special Education and either Elementary Education, Secondary Math, or Secondary Literacy
• Personalized one-on-one coaching and mentoring from a veteran teacher, mentor, and host teacher throughout the program
• Real classroom experience in a high-need school from day one
• A nationwide network of more than 2,400 educators for ongoing support and community
• Education awards, grants, and scholarships totaling $40,000 or more for eligible participants
• Eligibility for up to two Segal AmeriCorps Education Awards
• Pre-approval for City Year applicants with a 3.0 or higher undergraduate GPA, allowing them to skip the digital and final interview after applying
• City Year applicants with an undergraduate GPA between 2.5 and 2.99 may still apply through the regular selection process
• Free online, on-demand test-preparation courses for Praxis Core Math and applicable PACT math assessments

Why City Year loves City Teaching Alliance

City Teaching Alliance prepares career-changers and recent graduates—including City Year alumni—to become highly effective teachers. No education degree or classroom experience is required to start. Participants teach in a high-need school from day one while earning a master’s degree, dual certification, and individualized coaching from experienced educators.

City Teaching Alliance is seeking passionate individuals to teach Elementary Education, Secondary Math, or Secondary Literacy in Greater DC Metro, Baltimore and the state of Maryland, Dallas and the surrounding Metroplex, and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

During the first year, participants serve as teaching fellows, gaining clinical classroom experience while receiving coaching, mentoring, and graduate-level coursework. In years two through four, fellows move into full-time teaching positions and continue to receive individualized support as they develop their practice, complete certification requirements, and become leaders in their school communities. Fellows commit to at least three years in the classroom, creating the opportunity to see the real, compounding impact of great teaching on students.

City Teaching Alliance prepares educators through its 5Cs: Coaching & Mentoring, Clinical Placement, Coursework, Certification, and Care. Fellows receive personalized guidance from veteran teachers; gain practical experience in high-need schools; earn a master’s degree from a leading regional university partner; graduate with dual certification in their content area and Special Education; and join a nationwide community of more than 2,400 educators.

You must have a bachelor’s degree in any subject by June 2027, a minimum 3.0 undergraduate GPA, and authorization to work in the United States as a U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or DACA recipient to be eligible to begin the City Teaching Alliance program.

The program begins in mid-June 2027.
